^ topWHAT IS CRIME STOPPERS?

^ topHOW DOES CRIME STOPPERS WORK?
Crime Stoppers accepts information from anonymous callers on all types of crimes. We do not investigate or evaluate this information but forward it on to whatever agency would investigate that particular crime. The victims in these crimes included persons of all ages and sex. Crimes included, Murders, Spousal Abuse, Child Neglect and/or Abuse, Child Pornography, Internet luring, Crimes Against Seniors abuse, theft, fraud), violence in Schools (assaults, bullying, weapons, bomb threats), Animal abuse.. Many of these crimes have not been reported to the police and would never have been reported to the police had the caller not been provided the anonymity that Crime Stoppers provides.
In our 20 years of operation Crime Stoppers of Simcoe-Dufferin-Muskoka has assisted in seizure of illegal drugs in the amount of $36,011,722.00 and the recovery of stolen property in the amount of $9,258,923.00.
If our program can prevent one murder from happening, one son or daughter from falling victim to a crime against them, or one grandparent from being victimized and removing illicit drugs off our streets, we are doing our job, but more importantly people are able to walk the streets feeling a little bit safer because we all care. Our reward is the crimes that are not committed as a result of that hard work and dedication.
The Crime Stoppers tip line is manned by trained personnel who receive, process, and pass on tip information to investigating officers. Callers are given a code number which is used in all subsequent calls and callers do not have to identify themselves.
A reward of up to $2,000 is offered to anyone providing information which leads to an arrest for a crime. Rewards may also be made for information leading to the recovery of stolen property, the seizure of illegal drugs or an arrest on an outstanding warrant.
The media is a very important component of Crime Stoppers. An unsolved crime may be re-enacted and shown on television or may be publicized in a newspaper or aired on the radio. The media also brings the program to the attention of the public.
